Constipation

Do you defecate regularly? Do you experience some difficulties on your bowel movement? Do you always feel bloated? If your answer to these questions is an emphatic yes, then you are definitely constipated. When you say constipated, it specifically refers to constipation.

Constipation refers to the condition in which it is hard for you to move your bowel. According to some research, constipation is prevalent among women and adult aged 65 and above. It is a common medical problem especially to pregnant women. There are some instances wherein some people feel uncomfortable if they are constipated. The normal bowel movement is thrice a day or thrice a week. This may vary depending on the situation. Being constipated is not an illness. It is more of a sign that something is wrong with your body. People who get constipated are usually those who have poor eating habits. Fortunately, constipation is usually a short-lived happening. It rarely indicates a grave disease.

Numerous people are very worried about constipation. Doctors often receive complaints about patients who experience some changes in their bowel movement, whether it is on the form, color, and regularity of movement. As stated by some health experts, such changes are sometimes irrelevant and immaterial. The changes in color, texture and regularity must not be a health issue. There is nothing to worry about such changes except when there is a big discrepancy, especially when the condition is coupled with other symptoms. Change in bowel movements does not always signify a severe health problem. But it usually attacks aged people.

What should you do if you are constipated? The best thing to do is to settle in a healthy diet. Generally, constipation has a positive reaction on natural home remedies. If you always feel constipated, then it is most likely because you have poor eating habits. It may be because you lack fiber in your diet. So, why not eat more fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, which are known to produce fiber deposits that help in the body’s food digestion. Other foods that are rich in fiber are whole wheat breads and celery. Basically, fiber plays a major role in the overall function of the body’s digestive system. It reduces the risk of constipation by putting in more volume and getting water into the bowels. In this way there is less transfer time of food coming from the mouth all the way through the bowel movement. Plus, the water provided by the fibers has made it possible for the bowels to become soft.

Overall, to relieve the discomfort brought about by constipation, it is highly recommended that you increase your water or liquid intake. But, stay away from liquids with caffeine or alcohol content for they have diuretic action that can make the digestive system dry. Also, engage in regular exercise such as brisk walking or jogging so as to lessen the risk of being constipated. 30 minutes of walking each day is not only good to prevent constipation but it also keeps you fit and strong.
